Nigerian comedienne Anita Asuoha, widely known as Real Warri Pikin, recently opened up about her 2018 suicide attempt over a debt of N22 million. In a heartfelt post shared on her Instagram page in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, she recounted how financial strain led her to a breaking point.
Real Warri Pikin explained that her husband, inspired by a motivational speaker, ventured into several business opportunities in pursuit of financial success. However, these attempts backfired, leaving the family in significant debt.
The comedian revealed that on June 6, 2018, at 3 p.m., she felt overwhelmed by the burden of life and decided to end her pain. She described her struggles, stating that life seemed to “hit her from all sides” and made her feel trapped. However, a family member’s timely visit saved her from taking her life.
In her video message, she urged her followers to remember that life has seasons and phases, and no matter how difficult things may seem, suicide should never be considered an option. She encouraged those facing struggles to persevere, as things do get better with time.
Suicide is making a permanent decision to a temporary problem. And most of all, hold on to God and do the one your power reach,” the comedienne said.
Asuoha had in 2019 said depression pushed her into comedy.
“I discovered my comedy talent through depression. In school, I used to dance professionally, host events, and do stand-up comedy. However, I didn’t take it seriously. Last year, I fell into depression. I didn’t have money, and a lot of things went wrong. I just said to myself, “Why not start making videos to motivate and inspire people in a funny way”? And here I am today.”
