Osun CSOs Urge Tinubu: Sever Ties with World Bank, IMF, and Others on June 12

On the occasion of June 12 Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu is urged to reconsider affiliations with influential institutions such as the World Bank and IMF, as demanded by the Osun Civil Societies Coalition. In a statement signed by Chairman Waheed Lawal and shared with DAILY POST, the CSOs advocate for the establishment of an equitable society, prioritizing fairness and prosperity for all.

Lawal highlights the detrimental effects of recent economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy, electricity tariff hikes, and Naira devaluation, which have exacerbated economic hardship and poverty. These measures, influenced by external institutions, have stifled productivity, crippled small and medium-sized enterprises, and eroded the purchasing power of Nigerians, leading to widespread hunger and soaring prices of essential goods.

The coalition expresses disappointment that despite 31 years since MKO Abiola’s manifestos promising basic amenities and mass prosperity, these goals remain elusive due to decades of bad governance. Lawal asserts that meaningful change cannot occur under the current flawed system perpetuated by self-serving elites, both military and civilian.

In a direct appeal to President Tinubu, the CSOs call for disengagement from international institutions, urging him to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians over external influences. They underscore the urgency of addressing the nation’s plight and averting further suffering.
