2027: Obi Campaign to Be Anchored on Five Cs, Says POMR

As campaigns for the January 16, 2027 presidential election officially commenced on Wednesday, the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) said the presidential campaign of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, would be anchored on five core values: competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment.

In a statement issued in Abuja by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, POMR described Obi as the “Candidate of Conscience,” saying his campaign would focus on integrity, accountability, prudence, and service to the people.

The media office noted that the commencement of campaigns followed the provisions of Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which stipulates that campaigns for the January 16, 2027 presidential election begin on August 19, 2026, and end on January 15, 2027.

According to the statement, the next 150 days would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to assess candidates based on their records, ideas, and vision for the country.

POMR said the election would be a contest between “two opposing visions” of Nigeria — one characterised by waste, division, and unfulfilled promises, and another driven by competence, accountability, productivity, and hope.

The media office said Obi’s campaign would centre on his long-standing advocacy for moving Nigeria “from consumption to production,” reducing the cost of governance, strengthening education and healthcare, improving security, and creating opportunities for young Nigerians.

It stressed that Obi should not be viewed as a candidate of any particular ethnic, religious, or regional bloc but as a Nigerian seeking support based on his record and leadership credentials.

“Leadership should be defined by competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment, not ethnicity or political entitlement,” the statement said.

POMR further stated that Obi’s campaign would seek to restore trust between government and citizens through transparency, prudent management of public resources, and investments in productive sectors of the economy.

The media office argued that public office should be regarded as an instrument of service rather than personal enrichment and urged Nigerians to critically examine the records and policy proposals of all candidates.

It said Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State reflected his emphasis on fiscal discipline and investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, adding that governance should be earned through demonstrable competence and measurable outcomes.

The statement called on Nigerians to look beyond campaign slogans and propaganda and make informed electoral choices based on facts and performance.

“The next 150 days will test not only the candidates but also the conscience of the nation. History is calling. Nigeria is watching. The world is watching,” the statement said.

POMR expressed confidence that Obi possesses the leadership qualities needed to unite the country, promote accountability, and place Nigeria on the path of prosperity and national renewal.
