The Bauchi State Police Command says it has foiled an attempt to dispose of vandalised railway infrastructure following the recovery of railway slippers concealed in a residential building in Doya Quarters, Bauchi.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the ‘A’ Division Township, followed intelligence on the vandalisation of railway properties in the state capital.
According to the Command, the intelligence was received around 12:30 a.m. on August 17, prompting police operatives to trace the stolen materials to a house in Doya Quarters.
The entire consignment was subsequently recovered and taken to the police station, while one suspect, Abubakar Sanusi, was arrested in connection with the incident.
The recovery operation was completed around 3:30 a.m. on August 18.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons believed to be involved in the alleged vandalisation and theft of the railway materials.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned that the police would not allow the destruction or theft of public infrastructure, stressing that offenders would face prosecution.
He also called on members of the public to assist security agencies by reporting suspicious movements around critical public assets.
