The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has arrested two candidates and a parent for allegedly falsifying Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results using artificial intelligence and other digital tools, as it announced the release of results for 632,788 candidates who sat the 2026 UTME on Thursday.
The board, in a statement by its Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the suspects were already in custody, warning that manipulating official result messages to mislead the public constitutes a criminal offence.
He said: “Candidates are strongly cautioned against manipulating the SMS received from the official platform to fabricate or alter scores with the intent to mislead others, including parents. Such actions constitute a serious criminal offence.”
The Board added that any candidate found culpable would face the full weight of the law, disclosing that results of candidates who participated in the examination on April 16 had been released and could be accessed via SMS by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number used during registration.
According to JAMB, candidates could only view their results at this stage, noting that printing of result slips would be enabled later.
“The results of candidates who sat the 2026 UTME on Thursday, 16 April 2026, have been released and are now available for viewing,” the statement said.
The board also noted that the ongoing examination would see more results released in batches as processing was completed.
JAMB reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process, stressing that it would not tolerate any form of malpractice or digital manipulation.
It urged candidates and parents to rely solely on official channels for result verification and avoid falling prey to fraudulent practises.
