Wike Marks 58th Birthday, Says He Has No Regrets Backing Tinubu

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has marked his 58th birthday with a strong defence of his political choices, declaring that he has no regrets backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, spoke during celebrations held in Abuja, where political associates, supporters, and well-wishers gathered to honour him. In his remarks, the minister reflected on his political journey and described his support for Tinubu as a decision guided by conviction rather than pressure or personal gain.

He dismissed criticisms that followed his decision to support a candidate outside his former party’s presidential ticket, insisting that leadership requires courage and the willingness to stand by one’s beliefs. According to him, history has continued to justify his stance, adding that he remains satisfied with the path he chose.

The minister also used the occasion to reaffirm his loyalty to the Tinubu administration, saying he is committed to contributing meaningfully to the President’s agenda, particularly in transforming Abuja. He highlighted ongoing projects and reforms in the Federal Capital Territory, noting that visible development and improved infrastructure are central to his mandate.

Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the trust placed in him, describing his appointment as an opportunity to serve the country at a higher level. He said his focus remains on delivering results rather than engaging in political distractions or responding to critics.

Friends and political allies at the event praised Wike for his forthright style and resilience in the face of opposition. Many described him as a politician who thrives on bold decisions and is unafraid of controversy, qualities they said have defined his public life.

The birthday celebration also served as a moment of reflection for the former governor, who acknowledged the challenges and sacrifices that have come with public service. He thanked his supporters for standing by him over the years and called for continued unity and cooperation in national development efforts.

As he begins another year, Wike said his priority remains effective governance and leaving a lasting legacy in the roles he has been entrusted with, stressing that he is focused on the future rather than dwelling on political disagreements of the past.
