Nigerian Army Adds Over 3,000 Fresh Troops to Strengthen Security Operations

The Nigerian Army has graduated 3,439 newly trained recruits, marking another major step in efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture and boost manpower for ongoing operations across the nation.

The recruits completed their basic military training at the Depot Nigerian Army, where they underwent months of rigorous physical, tactical, and mental preparation designed to equip them for the demands of modern military service. The passing-out parade was attended by senior military officers, government representatives, and family members of the recruits, reflecting the importance attached to the exercise.

Speaking at the ceremony, the army leadership described the graduation as a significant contribution to national security, noting that the new soldiers are expected to be deployed to various formations and theatres of operation in line with operational requirements. The graduates were reminded that they are joining the army at a time when the nation continues to confront security challenges such as insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime.

The army leadership emphasised that the training focused not only on combat readiness but also on discipline, loyalty, professionalism, and respect for civilian authority. The recruits were urged to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army and to conduct themselves with integrity wherever they are deployed.

It was also noted that the training curriculum has been improved to reflect current security realities, with greater emphasis on weapon handling, physical fitness, teamwork, and adaptability in complex operational environments. The army said these measures are aimed at producing soldiers who are capable of responding effectively to evolving threats.

Addressing the new soldiers, senior officers charged them to remain committed to continuous learning and self-improvement, stressing that basic training is only the foundation of a lifelong military career. They were also encouraged to see their service as a duty to the nation and a sacrifice in defence of peace and unity.

The graduation comes amid sustained efforts by the Federal Government and the military high command to expand recruitment, enhance training standards, and modernise the armed forces. With the addition of the new recruits, the army expressed confidence that its operational capacity would be further strengthened.

As the soldiers prepare for deployment, the army reaffirmed its determination to remain professional and responsive in carrying out its constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
