Authorities in Delta State have launched a full-scale hunt for Chief Jerry Nkeeshe, the Owelle of Onicha-Olona, and his armed group after three youths were killed on November 24, 2025, near ‘B’ Division, Asaba.Investigations by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, reveal that the chief allegedly led a group of vigilantes and suspected cult members, some wearing Army camouflage, to a land parcel in Okwe community along the Asaba–Onitsha Road to assert ownership.
The group reportedly tried to enforce an illegal quit notice without a court order, sparking a violent clash with locals who resisted their actions.During the confrontation, the armed members allegedly fired recklessly, seriously injuring three youths who later died while being treated at a hospital.
To respond to the incident, Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda deployed tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and specialised investigators to track down and arrest all involved parties.CP Abaniwonda described the attack as a “brazen display of lawlessness” and emphasized that such acts would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Residents of Onicha-Olona, Asaba, and surrounding communities have been asked to assist the police in bringing the perpetrators to justice.Normal life has reportedly been restored in the area, with continued intelligence-led patrols and coordinated searches designed to prevent further disturbances.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, Delta State Police arrested three suspected armed robbers in Asaba and recovered ammunition, demonstrating the force’s ongoing commitment to public safety.
