Five Killed in Suicide Attack at Pakistan Paramilitary Headquarters

A suicide attack at the headquarters of Pakistan’s Federal Constabulary in Peshawar left three security personnel dead and at least a dozen others injured on Monday.

Police told BBC Urdu that two armed attackers stormed the facility, located in a heavily fortified part of the city, and attempted to force their way inside. Despite the tight security surrounding the complex, the assailants managed to charge toward the entrance before being confronted.

Witnesses reported hearing two powerful blasts around 08:10 local time (03:10 GMT), prompting a rapid response from rescue teams and security forces. The area has since been cordoned off.

According to one official, five security officers and seven civilians sustained injuries in the attack. Authorities described the incident as a “foiled terrorist plot,” saying both suicide bombers were shot dead at the gate before they could enter the premises.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and urged security agencies to quickly identify those responsible and bring them before the law.

The Federal Constabulary  formerly the Frontier Constabulary is tasked with handling security challenges beyond the regular police capacity, including tribal conflicts and organised criminal activity.

Peshawar, situated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region bordering Afghanistan, has long been a hotspot for militant activity. The Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), remains active in the province and has claimed responsibility for similar incidents in the past. However, no group has yet taken credit for Monday’s attack.
