On September 3, 2025, Nigerian troops once again proved their resilience and strength when they repelled a Boko Haram ambush along the Gubio-Damasak road in Northern Borno. The militants had set up the attack near Kareto, a region that has seen its fair share of violent clashes in recent months.
The terrorists, in an attempt to disrupt the operation, detonated two powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and opened fire. But the soldiers, part of Operation HADIN KAI, were ready. They quickly took defensive positions, returning fire with overwhelming force. The result? 13 insurgents were neutralized on the spot, and the rest scattered in panic.
As the soldiers pursued the fleeing militants, they scoured the area, recovering vital military supplies. These included eight AK-47 rifles, several magazines, and a large amount of ammunition. Additionally, they found materials used to make more IEDs, such as rolls of detonating cord and several primed devices.
Sadly, one soldier was slightly injured but remains stable, and two of the convoy’s trucks were caught in flames. Despite these setbacks, the troops maintained a steady operation to ensure that the area remained secure for humanitarian efforts. The relief materials intended for those in need were safely transported to Damasak.
The Nigerian military continues its operations in the region, ensuring that Boko Haram is denied the freedom to operate, while also protecting civilians and relief supplies from further attacks.
