Bode George, Jerry Gana, Others Storm PDP NEC Meeting in Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party’s 102nd National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja has drawn key leaders, including Chief Bode George and Prof. Jerry Gana, as the party deliberates on zoning and preparations for its November national convention.

The national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja came alive on Monday as party leaders, governors, and key stakeholders gathered for the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Committee. Among the early arrivals were former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, and former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, both warmly received by an energized crowd of supporters and party faithful.

The meeting, scheduled to begin at 2 p.m, carries enormous weight for the future of the party as it sets the stage for the November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. One of the key items on the agenda is the much-anticipated report of the National Zoning Committee, which will shape how top leadership positions in the National Working Committee are distributed between the North and South.

Already, regional consultations have led to micro-zoning agreements. At a recent stakeholders’ gathering in Lagos, southern leaders resolved to share critical positions: the Deputy National Chairman and National Publicity Secretary for the South-South, the National Secretary and National Auditor for the South-West, and the Deputy National Secretary and Financial Secretary for the South-East. Oyo State, under the influence of Governor Seyi Makinde, secured the prized National Secretary slot, while Akwa Ibom claimed the Publicity Secretary position.

Inside the secretariat, the atmosphere brimmed with songs, chants, and optimism, signaling a renewed determination by the PDP to reposition itself as a formidable opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement on its official X handle, the party declared that today’s meeting symbolized a collective vision to reclaim political relevance and deliver credible leadership to Nigerians.

The meeting is also crucial in ensuring a smooth transition from the current acting National Working Committee led by Ambassador Umar Damagum, whose tenure expires in December. To prevent factional cracks, the NEC had earlier approved the November convention, with Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri named chairman, Osun’s Governor Ademola Adeleke as vice chairman, and Enugu’s Governor Peter Mbah as secretary of the convention planning committee.

With the stakes high and power negotiations intensifying, the NEC gathering is more than just another meeting, it is a defining moment for the PDP as it seeks to project unity, consolidate its base, and position itself strategically for the battles of 2027.
