A tragic road accident along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli road in Abia State has claimed the lives of two individuals. The crash, which occurred on Friday, July 11, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m., involved a commercial Mark truck and a tricycle (popularly known as Keke) with registration number ATN 201 VU.
According to a statement released by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State, Ngozi Ezeoma, six persons were involved in the incident—two men, three women, and a child. While four were injured, including a man, two women, and the child, two were confirmed dead at the scene.
The FRSC rescue team arrived within two minutes of the incident and promptly transported the injured to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were also deposited at the FMC mortuary.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the likely cause of the accident was speed limit violation made worse by wet weather conditions, as it was raining at the time. Although the road was paved, visibility and control were significantly reduced.
The FRSC has since extended its condolences to the affected families and urged all road users, especially commercial drivers, to maintain safe speeds and exercise extra caution during poor weather conditions.
