Fashola Absent from Polling Unit During Lagos LG Election

Former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola was noticeably absent during the local government elections, as journalists and voters waited in vain at his polling unit.

A former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, was noticeably absent from his designated polling unit during the Lagos Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship election held on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Fashola, who was expected to vote alongside his wife, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, at Polling Unit 002, State Junior Grammar School (Special), Itolo Street, Eric Moore, Surulere, did not show up throughout the day.

The election began at 8:00 a.m. and concluded by 3:00 p.m., but the former governor failed to appear, echoing his absence during the 2021 local government elections as well. Journalists who had arrived early and waited in anticipation eventually left after hours of fruitless waiting.

The polling unit, which has 1,355 registered voters, recorded only 213 participants — further highlighting the low voter turnout that marked this year’s local elections.

This absence adds to the growing concern over political apathy and low participation among both the electorate and notable political figures.
