NSCDC Boss Charges New Officers to Use Firearms Responsibly in FCT

The NSCDC FCT Commandant has warned newly trained officers against misconduct, emphasizing professionalism, ethics, and the responsible use of firearms as the Corps launches its Emergency Response Team.

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has charged newly trained officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, responsibility, and professionalism in the use of firearms.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja, Odumosu addressed 200 personnel who had just completed the Corps’ basic arms training. He reminded them that the right to bear arms comes with serious responsibility, warning against misuse and unethical conduct.

“This is just the beginning,” he said. “The rifle is not merely a weapon; it is a responsibility. Let discipline, integrity, and professionalism be your watchwords. The NSCDC uniform you wear is not for harassment or intimidation—it is for service.”

Odumosu also used the occasion to launch the Corps’ newly formed Emergency Response Team, which he described as a specially trained unit capable of swiftly responding to high-risk incidents within the FCT. He emphasized that the unit must operate within strict ethical and professional boundaries.

According to him, the security landscape in the capital is constantly changing, and the Corps must evolve in tandem. This training marks the third batch in the agency’s weapons-handling initiative, bringing the total number of trained personnel to 472 since the program began.

The commandant praised the support of the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Audi, and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for helping to equip and strengthen the agency’s capacity to tackle security challenges in Abuja.

Odumosu ended his address with a motivational message to the officers: “The path to greatness is often narrow and rugged, but the courageous never turn back. We are forging ahead. We are building capacity. We are breaking new ground. May the Almighty God protect you as you serve your fatherland.”

The graduation ceremony was attended by senior security officials, community leaders, and representatives of the FCT Administration.
