IPOB Rejects Biafra Government-in-Exile, Pledges Loyalty to Nnamdi Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra has reaffirmed its loyalty to its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and distanced itself from any self-proclaimed Biafra government operating from abroad.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has made it clear that it has no ties with any “Biafra Government-in-Exile” or other similar factions operating outside Nigeria. The group also reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group urged supporters to reject any unauthorized groups that present themselves as representatives of the Biafran cause.

According to IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu remains the only legitimate voice of the movement. The group commended his commitment to a disciplined, lawful, and non-violent approach to Biafra’s self-determination, despite his continued incarceration and the Nigerian government’s refusal to comply with international rulings ordering his release.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has endured unlawful detention and legal persecution while consistently advocating for a peaceful and organized struggle,” the statement read.

IPOB emphasized that it does not endorse any formation of parallel governments, the issuing of Biafran identity cards, or the establishment of armed groups. Such acts, they stated, do not reflect the ideals of the movement or the vision laid out by Kanu.

The group called on Biafrans both at home and in the diaspora to remain vigilant and not be deceived by external actors who have no mandate from IPOB’s leadership.

The statement concluded with a renewed call for unity, urging supporters to stay focused on a peaceful and rights-based path toward self-determination. It also called on the Nigerian government to respect the rule of law and release Nnamdi Kanu in line with international legal judgments.
