The Kano Police Command, has dismissed as fake news reports of an 18-seater bus conveying Igbo individuals being set ablaze in Kano, as well as the false claim of an Igbo man being killed in reprisal attack.
The Command PPRO SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a released that “these malicious reports were debunked by community stakeholders and have caused unnecessary apprehension amongst the people.”
“The Command wishes to inform the public that the State is generally calm and peaceful, despite the recent circulation of fake news and misinformation aimed at instigating violence and breakdown of law and order.”
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained that the Command, has put adequate security measures in place to ensure the safety and security of life and property. “We urge everyone to go about their lawful activities without fear.
“We appreciate the support and cooperation of the Kano State Government, and law-abiding people of Kano State, which has been instrumental in maintaining peace and order, commending various community leaders and stakeholders for their prompt action in debunking the fake news reports.”
However, the Command warns against the peddling of fake news, hate statements, and inciting contents, which can cause harm and destabilize the peace.
“We urge everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station because together, we will continue maintain and improve the peace and security of Kano State.
