Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has refuted claims by his wife, Florence Nwaeke, that he was kidnapped, insisting that he is safe and voluntarily in Abuja to engage with security agencies over unfolding political developments in Rivers State.
In a video released early Saturday, Nwaeke dismissed his wife’s concerns, suggesting that she had been manipulated into making a false statement.
“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet security agencies and report myself regarding troubling events in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday due to these developments,” he clarified.
Reacting to his wife’s distress call, he said, “I just saw a trending video of my wife. She was misinformed and given a script to read. Let me be clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, attending to important matters.”
He further explained, “As Head of Service, my wife was never involved in my official duties. Whatever she said in that video holds no truth. I am safe, and I have chosen to report my concerns directly to security agencies in Abuja, where I feel most secure.”
Florence Nwaeke had raised alarm in an emotional interview on Friday, voicing fears over her husband’s whereabouts following his resignation.
She recounted how he had called to confirm his arrival in Abuja but became worried after seeing an online interview that she found suspicious.
“I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband,’” she recalled in distress.
She further revealed her desperate attempts to contact him, saying, “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he did not reply. His numbers are not going through. Nigerians, help me!”
Her concerns followed Nwaeke’s public accusations against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in which he alleged that the governor orchestrated the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2023 to avert his impeachment.
Nwaeke also claimed to have witnessed a monetary transaction between the former Assembly leader, Edison Ehie, now Fubara’s Chief of Staff, and those allegedly tasked with attacking the Assembly Complex on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara has strongly denied the allegations, asserting that Nwaeke had been compromised. “The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me,” the governor stated.
To counter the allegations, Fubara also released alleged chat records between Nwaeke and his Chief of Staff, suggesting that Nwaeke had sought financial assistance.
As this controversy unfolds, Nigerians are keenly watching for further developments and clarity on Nwaeke’s claims and the political tensions in Rivers State.
