President Bola Tinubu is presiding over the National Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa today. This is Tinubu’s first Council of State meeting since taking office.
Attendees include all living former presidents and past heads of state. Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari were seen in person, while Abdulsalami Abubakar and former Head of State Yakubu Gowon joined virtually.
The meeting’s key agenda includes discussions on the aftermath of the #EndBadGovernance protests, which began on August 1 and were intended to last ten days. Additionally, serving ministers will present on various topics: National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu will lead, with other presentations on Food Security, the Economy, Road Construction, and Solid Minerals.
The Council of State is composed of the President (Chairman), Vice-President (Deputy Chairman), all former Presidents and Heads of State, former Chief Justices of Nigeria, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, state Governors, and the Minister of Justice/Attorney General.
