Euro 2024: Rooney Unveils Ideal England Starting XI for Clash Against Serbia

Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney has revealed his lineup for England’s Euro 2024 opener against Serbia this Sunday.

In his selection, Rooney omitted Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher, as well as Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

During an appearance on The Overlap, Rooney affirmed Jordan Pickford as his preferred goalkeeper, drawing parallels between Pickford’s significance and that of striker Harry Kane, whom he nominated to lead the attack.

For the defensive positions, Rooney chose Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier as full-backs, while Marc Guehi and John Stones were slated as center-backs, pending Stones’ recovery from a recent illness.

In midfield, Rooney opted for Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in deeper roles, with Phil Foden positioned as an attacking midfielder.

On the wings, Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon were selected to flank Kane at the forefront.
