Deposed Emir Bayero Plans Sallah Durbar with District Heads Amidst Kano Emirate Tussle

Amid ongoing controversies surrounding the Kano Emirate tussle, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has directed his district heads to participate in the upcoming Sallah Durbar celebration in the state.

In a circular issued by Bayero’s senior counsellor and Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sanusi, the district heads have been asked to bring their village heads, horse riders, and praise singers to join the festivities in the ancient city of Kano.

“We are directing all the district heads of the emirate to come along with their village heads, horse riders, and praise singers for the festivities,” the circular stated. “You are directed to come to the Gidan Nassarawa palace of Aminu Ado Bayero on Saturday by 11 a.m. Afterwards, there will be a meeting with the district heads to discuss preparations for the Sallah Durbar celebration.”

This directive comes in the wake of the Kano State government’s recent repeal of the Kano Emirate law and the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. Emir Sanusi II has since taken over the main palace at the Kano Emirate, while the 15th Emir, Bayero, occupies the Gidan Nassarawa Emir’s guest house, known as the mini palace.

The planned Sallah Durbar, a traditional celebration involving horse riding, music, and cultural displays, is expected to proceed under the leadership of the deposed Emir Bayero, highlighting the enduring influence and traditions of the Kano Emirate amidst the current leadership disputes.
