A 58-year-old fugitive, Jacob Alone, who was jailed for raping and impregnating his daughter has been rearrested three years after he escaped from Benin prison in 2020 during the #EndSARS protest, Edo State Police Command has announced.
The police command in Edo State, south-south Nigeria says it has re-arrested a 58-year-old fugitive who escaped from Benin prison in 2020 during the #EndSARS protest.
Alone was charged by the police, but during his trial, his daughter (the victim) died in a motor accident while on her way to court to give evidence. He was still sentenced to 21 years imprisonment in Benin City, the capital of Edo State. However, he escaped through a jailbreak that occurred at the facility during the 2020 #ENDSARS protest.
On Tuesday, the police announced that they have re-arrested the suspect through intelligence gathering.
“We are returning him to where he belongs because from information gathered about him, he is a very dangerous man to the society.”
