The Judicial Commission of Inquiry on Political Violence and Missing Persons, chaired by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, initiated its proceedings on Monday. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State established the commission to probe instances of political violence and missing individuals from 2015 to 2023.

During the inaugural session, Justice Zuwaira emphasized the commission’s task of investigating the widespread occurrences of missing persons and offering sustainable resolutions to address politically motivated violence and the disappearance of children in the state.

She said, “The commission will identify victims of various forms of violence associated with the 2015, 2019, and 2023 general elections and assess the resulting loss of lives and properties.”

She also affirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring that the sponsors and perpetrators of political violence are brought to justice.

Justice Zuwaira pledged the commission’s dedication to fulfilling its mandate diligently and impartially, without succumbing to any external pressures.

To submit memoranda or petitions, she invited individuals, groups, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as victims and relatives of victims of political violence and missing persons.
