Tragedy struck as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gbolahan Olugbemi, who was serving at the Lagos Police Command, was discovered dead at his home in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, where he had been celebrating the Easter holidays.
Olugbemi, renowned for his significant contributions during the #EndSARS protest, passed away under mysterious circumstances, plunging officers affiliated with the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) into profound grief.
In response to mounting inquiries, FCID spokesperson ASP Aminat Mayegun assured the public of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Olugbemi’s untimely death.
Dismissing speculations of suicide, Mayegun insisted that the esteemed officer, formerly a Personal Assistant to late DIG Israel Ajao and late CP Young Arebamen, could not have taken his own life.
A police insider at FCID disclosed that several individuals, including those who were first to encounter Olugbemi’s lifeless body, would be summoned for questioning.
The aim is to ascertain Olugbemi’s whereabouts before his demise, identify individuals present with him before he retired to his room, and determine possession of his mobile devices at the time of death.
Reports from insiders suggest that the body of the 50-year-old police officer was discovered alone within his expansive residence.
Olugbemi, a recipient of a United Nations medal in Law Enforcement and Administration, had a distinguished career path. He served as the ADC to the late Oyo State Governor, Alao Akala, and held prominent roles such as Divisional Police Officer at Ilupeju and Area Commander at Ajah in Lagos. His expertise in counter-terrorism operations garnered him numerous accolades both domestically and internationally.
A proud graduate of the University of Lagos and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Olugbemi’s legacy as a dedicated law enforcement officer and public servant will be fondly remembered and celebrated.
