African Games: Amusan wins third consecutive 100m hurdles title

Tobi Amusan has once again proven her prowess by securing the gold medal in the women’s 100 meters hurdles at the 2024 African Games held in Ghana. The world record holder dashed to victory, clocking an impressive 12.89 seconds at the University of Ghana stadium in Accra on Wednesday.

Despite facing a false-start scare during the initial attempt to start the race, Amusan maintained her composure and was ultimately allowed to compete after receiving a yellow card from officials. This victory marks Amusan’s third consecutive African Games title, adding to her previous gold medals from the 2015 games in Brazzaville and the 2019 games in Rabat.

In the men’s 400 meters race, Chidi Okezie showcased an outstanding performance, clinching the gold medal with a remarkable time of 45.06 seconds. Samukonga Muzala of Zambia secured the silver medal with a time of 45.37 seconds, while Diouf Tidiane from Senegal claimed the bronze.
Joseph Esther also made a notable achievement by winning the silver medal in the women’s 400 meters race, narrowly missing out on gold to Mari Moraa of Kenya, who clocked an impressive time of 50.57 seconds.
