Osun police arrest suspected cultists, burglar

Osun State Police Command operatives have apprehended four individuals suspected of being members of the Eiye Confraternity. The arrested individuals, identified as Adejumo Boluwatife, Adisa Lateef, Gbolahan Oladipupo, and Adeagbo Musibau, fall within the age range of 20 to 25 years old. 

Known for their alleged involvement in terrorizing residents of Osogbo, the state capital, these suspects were apprehended by personnel from the Anti-cultism Unit of the Command.

In a separate incident, the Osun State Police Command also detained a 32-year-old man named Ayomide David Popoola on charges of burglary and theft. Popoola was accused of unlawfully entering an uncompleted four-bedroom flat located at Plot 1, Block 13, Osun GRA, Gbongan Road, Osogbo, and stealing an electric cable. 

The property owner, Akintola Adebisi Raifu, alerted the authorities about the suspect’s suspicious activities around the premises, prompting swift police response.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers caught Popoola in the act of removing newly installed electric cables from the building. Although some members of his group managed to escape, Popoola was apprehended with one bag containing stolen electric cables. 

The Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrests, stating that all suspects will face legal charges following thorough investigation.

Opalola added that the four alleged cultists were apprehended at Idi-Omo Area, Osogbo, following a tip-off to the police.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of Eiye Confraternity and they would soon be charged to court.”

Regarding Popoola who was nabbed for burglary and theft, Opalola also said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the rest of the syndicate.

She said the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation.
