Nigeria’s quest for a win at the prestigious Brit Awards, the UK’s top-tier music ceremony, faced another setback as Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema fell short of securing an award at this year’s event held at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night.
Despite nominations in the Best International Act of the Year category, Burna Boy and Asake were unsuccessful, with the award going to American artist SZA. Likewise, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ missed out on the Best International Song of the Year, which was claimed by Miley Cyrus with ‘Flowers.’
Despite the absence of awards, Rema concluded the ceremony with a captivating performance of his hit track, ‘Calm Down.’ He became only the second African artist to perform at the BRITs, following Burna Boy’s performance in 2019.
On a different note, Raye has set a new record as the artist with the most wins in a single year in BRITs history. She clinched six awards, including Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Act, and Songwriter of the Year.
