Driver crushes three to death on Lagos-Ibadan highway, mob burns vehicle

On Friday night, a crowd reportedly set fire to a Hilux Toyota vehicle after it was involved in an incident that resulted in the alleged killing of three individuals around Kara-OPIC bus stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The white Toyota Hilux, bearing the number plate EPE80J, was reported to have experienced brake failure, causing it to lose control and collide with bystanders at the bus stop. Tragically, three people lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries as a result.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, revealed these details in a statement provided to journalists on Saturday. The injured individuals were reportedly transported to the Lagos Emergency Centre in Ojota for medical attention.

According to reports, individuals at the Kara market, claiming to be relatives of two of the deceased, took possession of their bodies for burial. The third body was reportedly taken to the Idera Morgue in Sagamu.

The statement partly read, “The crash occurred at about 2051hrs around Kara -OPIC bus stop.

“Six people were involved in the crash, five males and one female. Two persons were injured while three were killed and they are all male adults.

“The crash involved a Toyota Hilux white colour with registration number EPE80J.
The cause of the crash was brake failure, the vehicle lost control and ran into people standing at the bus stop.

“The vehicle was set ablaze by angry people due to the killing.”

It was reported that this is the third reported fatal accident on this route this week

On Thursday, five people died while four others were injured in an accident which occurred around Fidiwo Bridge, near Ogunmakin along the expressway.

The accident which occurred at about 2:48 pm involved a red prime bus with number plate MUS191HA and a golden colour Toyota Camry car with registration AKD754BG

Similarly, on Wednesday, another crash around NASFAT involving two trucks and a bus, killed five people leaving 10 others injured.

The fatal crash was blamed on reckless driving on the part of one of the trucks’ drivers who made a sudden U-turn without trafficating causing the truck behind it and another bus to lose control and rammed into each other.
