Midfielder Declan Rice of Arsenal was honoured with the Player of the Year title at the London Football Awards on Thursday night. Delivering an emotional speech after securing the award in the Men’s category at The Roundhouse in Camden, Rice, who joined Arsenal from West Ham the previous year, expressed his gratitude.
The Women’s Super League (WSL) awards saw Chelsea’s Lauren James named Player of the Year, while Aggie Beever-Jones secured the Women’s Young Player of the Year title.
The England international said: “Since I have walked through the doors [at Arsenal] I have loved every single moment of it.
“As time has gone on and the games have gone on I have tried to be confident and do the best I can for the team.
“So far we have been going well and hopefully we can have a good end to the season.”
In other categories, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer received the Young Player of the Year accolade. Tottenham’s head coach, Ange Postecoglou, clinched the Manager of the Year award, surpassing Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, and Spurs’ goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was recognized as the Goalkeeper of the Year.
