AFCON: They don’t need me much – Iwobi on his new role for Super Eagles

Alex Iwobi, the Super Eagles star, discussed his recent position in head coach Jose Peseiro’s 3-4-3 system.

Iwobi expressed that his role doesn’t require extensive individual contributions, as both he and Frank Onyeka have been instructed by Peseiro to manage the game and engage in collective defensive efforts.

The ex-Arsenal player shared these insights during his pre-match press conference on Thursday in anticipation of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final encounter with Angola scheduled for Friday.

“I have been told to manage and keep the ball for my team. They don’t need much from me when they’re creating up-front,” the Fulham star said.

“There’s Chukwueze, Moses, Lookman and Victor who can do that so we have a lot of creativity.

“I and Frank have been told to control the game as much as we can, and first of all, to defend as a team. I’m trying to do my job for the team,” Iwobi added.
