The Nigerian Army has responded to a video in which a female soldier stationed in Lagos State alleges sexual harassment and unpaid salary. The soldier, in the viral video, accuses senior army officers, namely Col. IB Abdulkareem, Col. GS Ogor, and Brig. Gen. IB Solebo, of pressuring her and making threats to her life due to her refusal of their advances.
She claims the harassment began when she was assigned to Cantonment Medical Centre, Ojo, Lagos, in 2022. The soldier asserts that she has faced unwarranted confinement, eviction from her residence, month-long confinement in a psychiatric hospital without medication, and her bank account being frozen since February 2023 without any explanation for the lack of salary.
In response, the Army, through an official statement on its X page, has stated that it is currently investigating the allegations. The Army advises against making hasty judgments and reassures the public of its commitment to serving the nation with honor and integrity.
“We assure the general public that the Nigerian Army as an institution is committed to upholding the integrity and morals of its personnel and as such appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
“We urge the public to allow the investigative process to take its course and refrain from making hasty judgments,” it said.
