The House of Representatives’ Minority Caucus responded to the passing of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
According to DAILY POST, Akeredolu passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
In a statement endorsed by Rep. O. K. Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, the Minority Caucus conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire State.
The Caucus recognized Akeredolu as an exceptional leader and a distinguished legal practitioner. His tenure as President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) was marked by the NBA’s advocacy for upholding the rule of law.
Acknowledging his roles as the Governor of Ondo State and Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, the statement highlighted his dedication to prioritizing the welfare and security of his constituents. Akeredolu’s pivotal support for the establishment of Amotekun, a regional security outfit aimed at bolstering safety in the southwest, was also underscored.
Additionally, the statement praised Akeredolu as a bold and outspoken leader who fearlessly championed truth and advocated for a fair and equitable distribution of power to the southern region during the 2023 presidential election.
He added that, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Betty, his family, the government, the people of Ondo State, and the entire nation during this difficult time.
“Governor Akeredolu’s contributions to Ondo State and the nation will be remembered, and his legacy will endure.
“May his soul rest in peace, Amen.”
