Shatta Wale voiced his disapproval towards Ghanaian musicians who are pushing for a decrease in the airing of Nigerian music on Ghanaian radio stations. Through a string of social media posts, he argued that even with the enforcement of Ghana’s local content policy, Nigerian music would likely continue to dominate.
Expressing his opinion, he highlighted the limitations of such a policy in the streaming era, asserting that the government cannot compel Ghanaians to stream local music despite implementing airplay regulations.
The singer claimed it will take Ghana “roughly the year 5050” to catch up with Nigeria in terms of music.
Shatta Wale wrote in Ghanaian Pidgin, “The way Wizkid and Davido and Burna Boy love Ghana nu, you ppl wan play dem a song 20%?
“No problem. One song from them go make your woman wet all nite. E go take you ppl roughly the year 5050 before you guys will get what Naija is getting.
“Your spirit of wanna be is very bad. Is it by force for Ghanaians to listen to your fav? They like Wizkid.
“Your artiste loose guard he no make money quick. Now he say play Ghana music. U weh dj’s play your song saaaa weh u no give dem shishi. Shame on you all. Your artiste no get shi shi.
“Artiste poor, fans poor!!! Music too no deh fly.”
