Court remands 5 over alleged attempted murder of farmer

The Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan detained five men on Monday for their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a farmer in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The accused individuals, identified as Ademola Isiaka (58), Alabi Rasak (58), Ademola Aremu (22), Muritala Habideen (24), and Abisoye Taiwo (55), did not enter pleas as Chief Magistrate Mrs. O. O. Ogunkanmi remanded them in the Abolongo custodial facility in Oyo Town. 

Their detention is pending advice from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions. The case is scheduled for mention on February 5, 2024.

According to the police charge, the defendants face allegations of conspiracy and attempted murder. The prosecutor, Insp Sikiru Opaleye, informed the court that the defendants, in concert with others who are currently at large, attempted to murder on December 10.

Opaleye detailed that within the hours of 8:00 am to 12:30 pm, at the Ilajue area in Ogbomoso, they allegedly attempted to fatally injure Mr. Musefiu Raimi, aged 40, by shooting him in the leg with a firearm.

“The defendants mounted a roadblock while the complainant was returning from the farm on a motorcycle.

“On sighting the roadblock, the complainant made an attempt to turn back and flee, but was shot by the defendants on the leg,” he said.

Opaleye said the offenses contravened sections 320 and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
