Police ban use of knockouts, fireworks in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a warning to residents concerning the use of knockouts, fireworks, and firecrackers during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, on Saturday, the Command emphasized the potential of knockouts and fireworks to induce panic or anxiety among the public.

CP Haruna Garba, the Commissioner of Police, reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents within the nation’s capital.

Furthermore, the statement disclosed that the Command has deployed officers to strategic locations across the capital city to guarantee a Christmas celebration devoid of criminal activities.

According to the statement, the deployment is characterized by “visibility policing at various places of worship and event centers, and raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings/shanties, stop and search, vehicular/foot patrol and inter-agency cooperation”.
