The Abia State chapter of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) has taken action against its Chairman, Uluocha Nelccin Chimezuo, suspending him for alleged involvement in anti-party activities. Mr. Uzodinma Nwoko has been appointed as the acting Chairman and Secretary until a new party congress is convened.
At the YPP secretariat on 75 Aba Road in Umuahia, the State Working Committee (SWC) issued a communique detailing the suspension of former Chairman Uluocha Nelccin Chimezuo due to reported anti-party actions preceding and during the 2023 general elections.
During the SWC meeting, a motion to suspend the Chairman and a vote of no confidence were moved by Success Echefula and seconded by Nwakanma Dauglas.
The party highlighted its disapproval of the former Chairman accepting the role of Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Revenue Service Mobilization to Umuahia North LGA Chairman, Victor Ikeji, considering it unacceptable and contrary to the YPP’s constitution.
Notifying the national secretariat of the decision, the YPP explained that Uluocha Nelccin Chimezuo’s acceptance of the SSA position disqualified him from functioning as the party Chairman, citing violations of Section 31.14 and Article 31 of the YPP constitution.
The party clarified that it hadn’t formed any alliance with the Labour Party, expressing concern over the suspended Chairman’s reluctance to resign from the SSA appointment.
