In Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, 34-year-old Jamila Hamza faced charges on Wednesday for an alleged assault against her neighbor.
Residing on Daura Road in Kaduna, Hamza was accused of three counts: assault, deliberate damage, and breach of peace.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, the incident occurred on December 4 within her apartment premises.
Leo detailed that Hamza allegedly assaulted her co-tenant, Farida Garba, severely injuring her during a disagreement over a pail of water.
Reportedly, amidst the altercation, Hamza tore Garba’s clothing, poured water on her, and physically assaulted her, leading to significant injuries. The offences, as per Leo, contravene Sections 166, 171, and 337 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
Sections 171 and 337 stipulate a three-year prison sentence for assault and property damage, respectively.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail worth N100,000 and required a surety of equal value, insisting the surety should be employed and provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government. The case was adjourned till January 15th for further proceedings.
