The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman has on Wednesday solicited support for community policing and a better societal approach to internal security in the state.
The Police Commissioner said when he paid a familiarization visit to the Emir of Minna, HRH Alh. Dr. Umar Faruk Bahago that the traditional institution is very important to addressing internal security.
According to him “the dynamics of crime have changed over time, therefore all hands must be on deck, from both the State actors and non-state actors.
“The Police, being the lead internal security agency need every iota of assistance, partnership and cooperation to succeed in providing internal security for our land.
“One key institution that is fundamental to partner with the security agencies, most especially the Police, is the traditional institution”.
In a statement signed by the Command Spokesman DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the Commissioner of Police noted that it is important to get to know His Royal Highness and receive Royal blessings, as well as to appreciate him for the wonderful assistance, counsel, advice, cooperation and blessings the Police Command has been enjoying over time from the Emir.
He stated that the Command wishes to leverage on the Emir’s influence, spread, authority and the respect accorded to His Highness’s office to help in Policing the people.
He further noted that the Emir has strata of leadership across the communities and that His authorization, free hand and encouragement of these community leaders to partner with the Police will go a long way to tackle crime and criminality in our communities.
He finally reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to fight crime and the loyalty to the Constitution and service to our fatherland, as well as the respect for the traditional and cultural background toward ensuring a safer community.
In His response, the Emir of Minna gave his blessings and assured the CP of his support and maximum cooperation.
