One dies, seven injured in Lagos-Ibadan road crash

In an incident on Wednesday morning, a lone accident involving a Daf truck transporting cattle led to the death of one person and left seven others injured along the Ogunmakin section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash, which involved 15 individuals, occurred around 6:10 am and was reportedly caused by a burst tyre, resulting in a loss of control and subsequent collision.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, conveyed this information in a statement to journalists.

Okpe highlighted another accident on the expressway’s long bridge involving a kerosene-carrying tanker. The tanker toppled, spilling its contents on the road, causing traffic congestion and necessitating diversions to ensure smoother traffic flow.

The statement reads, “The crash occurred at about 0610 hrs this morning involving 15 persons and all male adults. Seven persons were injured and one person was recorded dead from the lone crash.

“One vehicle was involved with no registration on it, a Daf truck conveying both passengers and animals.

“The suspected causes of the lone crash were a burst tyre, the speed which led to a loss of control, and the vehicle crashed. The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention.”

The statement noted that the FRSC operatives managed the situation and that the traffic was diverted to the other lane in order to remove the obstruction off the road.

“The second crash at the Long Bridge involving a fallen kerosene tanker is being managed by the FRSC operatives, no death nor injury recorded from the crash.

“Another tanker has been called for trans-loading of the content, the area is corned to avoid the secondary crash, and operatives are placed in different  points for traffic control.”
