The Nigeria Customs Service at the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command made a significant seizure, intercepting various items. Among these were 15,449 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at N13 million in total, as detailed in an official statement shared on the NCS’s verified handle on Tuesday.
During a press briefing at the Area Command’s headquarters in Yola on November 17, 2023, Area Controller Salisu Abdullahi revealed the seizures, which also included 19 cartons of foreign insecticide and 26 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice.
Due to the flammability of the PMS, most of it was disposed of in compliance with existing laws, and the resulting proceeds were remitted to the Federation Account. Abdullahi mentioned that the remaining PMS would be auctioned off post-briefing.
While the smugglers managed to evade capture, Abdullahi emphasized the determination to crack down on smuggling activities, emphasizing the threat they pose to the nation’s economy. He urged Nigerians, stakeholders, and security agencies at the command’s frontiers to collaborate closely with Customs to combat this smuggling menace.
