Off-cycle election: CSO hails military over election security

The Coalition for Good Governance and Security (CGGS) has commended the Nigerian military for its role in the recently concluded off-cycle election in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.

In a statement on Monday in Abuja, Ishaku Aliyu, the National Coordinator of the Coalition, acknowledged that the Armed Forces adhered to the promises made by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, by maintaining neutrality in all the states where the election took place.

Aliyu emphasized that the commendable involvement of the military contributed to minimizing security challenges during the election. He also praised the defense chief for his support in advancing democracy in the country.

“We are aware of the stern warning by the CDS that criminal tendencies during the election will not be condoned.

“We can say that the AFN kept to its promise. Our investigation across the 3 states where the off-cycle election was conducted revealed that our military performed excellently well.

“In spite of the attempt by some politicians to draw the military into what took place, we can give them credit for their neutrality. Once more, CGGS commends the CDS for his excellent outing.”
