Another tragic incident has occurred in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, where a female student from the University of Port Harcourt was discovered lifeless in her off-campus apartment.
The student, identified as Adaeze, was reportedly a 200-level undergraduate majoring in Accounting.
Her lifeless body was found on Friday in Aluu, a community adjacent to the university. At the time of reporting this incident on Monday, the cause of her death remained uncertain.
This unfortunate event took place just two weeks after the decomposed remains of another student, Justina Otuene, a 300-level undergraduate in Biochemistry, were allegedly discovered in the residence of her ex-lover, identified as Damian Okoligwe, along NTA Road, Ozuoba in Obio/Akpor LGA. Okoligwe, a 400-level student in Petrochemical Engineering at UNIPORT, has since been apprehended by the police.
Chima Wokocha, the Dean of Student Affairs at UNIPORT, confirmed the most recent incident, explaining that the lifeless body of the student was found in her off-campus dwelling and was subsequently taken to a health facility within the school by concerned neighbors.
Both the university management and the police have visited the scene of the incident, and the parents of the deceased female undergraduate have been notified.
He stated, “Her body was brought to the Chief Lulu-Brigss Health Centre by people who live around her in her lodge.
“She didn’t die in the university hostel. She died in her off-campus residence in Aluu and the scene of the crime was visited by the management of the university, including my humble self.
“The police were there with us also. We acknowledge the fact that she had taken a substance and passed out because there was a bottle of a substance that was found by her side.
“The parents have come there and I think they are making arrangements to take the body.”
Contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she was driving to the office and promised to give feedback to our correspondent afterwards.
Iringe-Koko had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report on Monday afternoon.
