World Cup qualifiers: Eagles get Chukwueze boost, player returns for Milan weekend

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has received good news following the early return of his winger Samuel Chukwueze to action from injury, which will make the forward available for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho and Zimbabwe this month.
The winger sustained an injury during Nigeria’s friendly with Saudi Arabia last month, and it was feared that the AC Milan star would be out of action for about six weeks, which meant he would miss the qualifiers this month.
However, news from his Serie A side suggested that the player has recovered earlier than expected and will even be available for selection by coach Stephan Pioli when they face Udinese this weekend.
The AC Milan medical department has officially confirmed that Chukwueze is expected to make his comeback in the weekend game against Udinese and will also be available for the UEFA Champions League match against PSG next week.
However, the Eagles coach could be disturbed by news coming from Leicester City that Wilfred Ndidi has now sustained an injury that will keep him out of those two matches.
The Leicester City star has been out of action in the last 2 weeks due to a muscular injury and club manager Enzo Maresca confirmed on Thursday afternoon that he will not be back until the International break
“Wilf will be out until the international break. It is also a muscular problem. It’s a small thing, but when the problem is muscular, even if it’s small, it’s always one or two weeks because we don’t want to take any risks”, he said.
Ndidi has now joined Victor Osimhen on the list of players expected to miss the two qualifying matches.
Meanwhile, our correspondent also gathered that Peseiro may likely hand Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella his debut call-up to the Super Eagles, following his creative and goal-scoring abilities.
Nigeria will face the Crocodiles of Lesotho on November 17 before facing Zimbabwe in the second match.
