There is a growing concern at Napoli regarding their sidelined striker, Victor Osimhen, due to the numerous injuries he has suffered since joining the club.
He has already missed 55 matches, and it is projected that this number will rise to 58 as he is expected to miss at least three more games against Salernitana, Union Berlin, and Empoli.
Additionally, Osimhen was also suspended for three matches, bringing his total missed matches to 61 in three seasons. According to a Naples-based news outlet, Tuttonapoli, this high number of absences is significant for a player with a net salary of $5 million a year.
Napoli has paid Osimhen more than a year’s salary without being able to rely on him, especially since an average season has about 50 games a year between the league and cups. Transfermarkt provided a breakdown of Osimhen’s missed matches, showing that he has suffered various injuries.
He missed 15 games due to a problem he had while playing for his national team in November. He then missed six games due to COVID-19, three more with a head injury in February 2021, and two more with a calf strain in October of the same year.
He was also out of action for 12 games due to a fractured cheekbone against Inter for the clash with Skriniar, and missed two more games, again in the 2021/22 season, due to COVID-19. Furthermore, he was out for seven games last year after being knocked out by Liverpool and missed four games in the spring due to an adductor injury.
