Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, has clarified the incident that had been widely reported on social media as an attempt at his assassination and revealed that it was actually just a minor argument between some military personnel providing security on the road and the security details attached to him.
Sunday, Governor Bello told the press in an interview that he just gave at his Abuja home that there had been no attempt made on his life in any way.
He explained that although there had been a small altercation between the members of his convoy and a military unit monitoring the highways, it had taken place as both units carried out their legitimate security responsibilities.
However, he urged the high command of the agencies to look into any overzealous or unprofessional behavior by any of their men involved in the incident and impose the necessary sanctions. The governor praised the security agencies for their joint contributions to the improved security of lives and property enjoyed by the citizens of Kogi State.
As the November 11, 2023, date for the state’s governorship elections approaches, the governor urged the people of Kogi State to disregard any attempts by political profiteers to utilize the incident to polarize the polity.
In order to guarantee that the elections are peaceful, free, and fair, he reassured the state of both his safety and the sufficiency of security measures.
