Kaduna town raises alarm over Ansaru militants’ presence

Residents of the Kuyello community in Kaduna State’s huge Birnin Gwari Local Government Area have voiced concern over the presence of Ansaru terrorists in their neighborhoods.

According to information obtained by Daily Trust, local residents’ anxieties have increased as a result of the cult members’ recent visit to the village on motorcycles.

The sect members abruptly showed up in the tranquil village a few days ago and declared their desire to blend in with the populace.

But instead of giving them a warm hug, the villagers warned them to avoid their community since they thought their primary goal was to draw their young people into the ranks of the extreme group.

According to recent reports, the Ansaru organization has been recruiting unwary adolescents into their ranks in nearby villages including Kazage, Unguwar Gwandu, Unguwar Gajere, and ancient Kuyello. To increase their presence and power within the LGA is the goal.

The people of Kuyello bravely took the bold action of sending representatives of the town—most of whom are clerics—to warn the group’s leaders that the residents of Kuyello did not want their presence in the town in a last-ditch effort to protect their village. The leaders of the hardline group, in reaction, vowed to forcibly enter the village.

The Ansaru returned to their hiding place after the representatives assured them that they would thwart any attempt by the group to reach their hamlet.

The locals said the aim of sending the representatives was to advise the extremists against settling in the village to avoid any confrontation.

The sect members’ stance left the villagers in a state of deep concern as they vehemently opposed the notion of having Ansaru members as neighbours, because of the potential risks that could arise from such proximity.
