On Day 2 of the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Florence Olarinoye, a talented 13-year-old athlete, displayed her exceptional skills in the 49kg women’s weightlifting event. In a dominating performance, Olarinoye, the younger sibling of Adijat Olarinoye, the African and Commonwealth Games champion, left her competitors far behind, claiming all three gold medals for her home state, Lagos.
Her impressive achievements included a successful snatch lift of 56kg and a remarkable clean and jerk lift of 72kg, accumulating a total of 128kg, which secured her the coveted gold medals.
At 12 years old, Olarinoye won bronze in the 45kg class at the 2022 National Sports Festival, also in Asaba, last December.
The FCT won all the silver medals after Marvelous Ibeh lifted 53kg in snatch, 67kg clean and jerk, and 120kg in total.
Bayelsa went home with all three bronze medals courtesy of Christianah Adefemi, who lifted 48kg in snatch, 65kg in clean and jerk, and 104kg in total to place third.
