Mohbad: Oyo speaker joins protest in Ibadan

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, participated in a protest in Ibadan, alongside hundreds of youths, to demand justice for the late Nigerian hip-hop singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba Imole, popularly known as Mohbad.

The rally, themed “Justice for Mohbad,” began at Mokola and proceeded through Sango, Bodija, concluding at the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan. Speaker Ogundoyin, accompanied by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adefemi, marched alongside the protesting youth throughout the rally.

The young protesters, dressed in black T-shirts and carrying various placards, called for justice for the late Mohbad, and they chanted various solidarity songs during the demonstration.

Ogundoyin addressed the protest at multiple points, commending the youth for their dedication to seeking justice. He emphasized that all well-meaning Nigerians should join in calling for justice for Mohbad.

The Speaker expressed his sadness and shock over Mohbad’s passing, describing him as a talented and highly inspired young musician known for his lyrical and melodious songs. He also noted that Mohbad had a strong passion for music and had risen from humble beginnings to achieve success in the industry.

He said: “It is unfortunate that Ilerioluwa Imole died in mysterious circumstances. The investigation team set up by the Nigeria Police Force must be thorough in their job. Everyone connected with the death of the young man must be questioned and investigated and the cause of his death must be unraveled.

“Why did the Police fail to investigate a petition he sent to them on constant threats to his life?  There are video clips showing Mohbad being beaten and bullied, yet no one was arrested at that time and no one was prosecuted.

“He also did some audio recordings of his depressing situation and condition but nothing was done by the security agencies to secure the life of the promising singer. This is rather pathetic, pitiful, and condemnable.”
