Finding Replacement for de Gea is a Challenging Task, Says Onana

In a press conference before Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich, Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana admitted that filling the shoes of former goalkeeper David de Gea is a challenging task. The 24-year-old Cameroonian expressed confidence in his team’s performance for the rest of the season despite conceding 10 goals in five Premier League matches. Onana joined United on a five-year deal worth £47.2 million, extending his contract until 2028.

“Well, I’m a very passionate player and I demand a lot from my players and my defenders.

“But like I always said, we are in this together. Being part of this big club is something great. Manchester United is an amazing club, it is huge.

“I’m happy to be here. Replacing David is not something easy. I’m trying to do my best of course.

“The start of the season is not what we want but we believe better will come. The situation will turn and I’m very confident. I know everything will be alright,” he assured.

Onana will make his UCL debut for Man Utd against the Bavarians, the first after losing last season’s 1-0 final between his former club, Inter Milan, and Manchester City.

Onana has been tipped as a suitable replacement for former goalkeeper, de Gea, who announced his retirement from United in early July after spending 12 years with the Reds.
