Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has instructed that pregnant women registered at state-run hospitals and health centers receive free antenatal and delivery services.
Soludo issued this directive while at Nnobi General Hospital in Idemili South local government area during the launch of the initiative, which is aimed at mitigating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal as part of his administration’s efforts.
The governor affirmed that these free services will remain in place for the duration of his leadership in Anambra State. He encouraged Anambra communities to contribute their share, recognizing that government alone cannot meet all the needs, especially with the majority of the state’s funds being privately held.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, highlighted that this initiative aims to ensure the well-being of Anambra residents. He mentioned that the state government has trained 500 health workers to support this effort and improve healthcare delivery. Some medical professionals have also been assigned to Nnobi General Hospital.
Dr. Obidike stressed that a key objective of this initiative is to further reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. He emphasized that Governor Soludo has released the necessary funds to secure approval for these antenatal and delivery services.
