Breaking: PEPC rejects EU’s report on 2023 poll tendered by Obi, LP

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has removed from its records a copy of the report on the last presidential election submitted by the European Union (EU) Election Observers Mission. This document had been tendered by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP).

The court’s decision was based on the grounds that the document was obtained by the petitioners from its registry and was certified by its staff, who was not the original custodian of the document produced by the EU mission.

It’s worth noting that the actual copy of the EU report had been previously submitted by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during their petition.

Additionally, the court rejected 18088 blurred results sheets provided by the petitioners, as they were not linked to any specific polling units that the results pertained to, and the petitioners had failed to specify these polling units in their petition.

The court also noted inconsistencies in the petitioners’ claims regarding their inability to identify the polling units due to the blurriness of the result sheets. It highlighted that one of the petitioners’ witnesses had analyzed the same results and claimed to have sourced them from INEC’s results viewing platform.

Furthermore, the court emphasized that since the petitioners’ agents had signed for and received copies of the result sheets, they could not claim ignorance of the affected polling units but had chosen not to specify them in their petition.
